Born in Hornsea, East Yorkshire, but after sojourning in Newbury, Swansea, Cornwall, and Stevenage, John and his wife Wendy have lived in Solihull since 1992. He met Wendy at Newbury Baptist Church, where they were both baptised on the same day. In 47 years of marriage, they have been blessed with three sons, and two grandsons. Most of his working life was spent in the gas industry, beginning as a chemical engineer, and ending-up as a commercial manager. After retiring from gas, John has spent his days in a number of areas, including studying part-time at Bristol Baptist College -eventually graduating with a MA in theology, ministry and mission; supporting Asylum Seekers; and leading the bus chaplaincy team. As well as enjoying spending time with his grandsons, John has a particular interest in the contemporary railway scene – even though he is a bus chaplain! He also enjoys being in the open-air, enjoying the natural world. He keeps fit by running and is one of the core team that manages the Saturday morning 5 km parkrun at Babbs Mill. Also, Wendy and he lead one of the home groups at Olton Baptist Church. On Sundays, Wendy is one of the worship leaders there, and John can often be found in the booth at the back, operating the projector.

Tanya studied psychology in Leeds and spent her career in the field of stress at work, or wellbeing at work, as it is now called. She was a researcher for the Medical Research Council, a lecturer at University of Birmingham, then set up her own consultancy and was a Visiting Fellow at Cranfield School of Management, delivering courses and writing. Tanya was on the steering group of the British Association of Christians in Psychology which brought together her faith life and her professional life as an occupational psychologist. She started in chaplaincy as a volunteer at her local hospital and was appointed chaplaincy team leader at Birmingham Airport in 2019, just as she was thinking of retiring! Tanya is very involved in the pastoral work of her local church, Holy Trinity in Sutton Coldfield. In her spare time, she has a horse and enjoys riding through the woods, she swims, loves choral music, opera, and television drama.
